We swam through an underground river, ate sushi, walked on the beach, and struggled to rememember what our teachers taught us in Spanish Class. We got trapped in an airport (kinda like that Tom Hanks movie from a few years back!), ran up and down the street in Dallas chasing an airport shuttle, wore the same clothes for 48 hours trying to get to Mexico, and our shuttle ran out of gas on on way back to the airport in Mexico.
There were great times of laughter, smiles, thankfulness, reminiscing about past moments while dreaming for greater todays and tommorrows.
Mexico is a beautiful place with beautiful people.
We are back in California hanging out with our 3 little ladies in Santa Cruz. I have a few pictures from our time in Mexico that I will post tommorrow. Thanks to all of you that prayed that we would get there, get some rest, and have a little fun. We had an amazing time together celebrating 13 years.
I just wanted to let all the Dreamers know that we made it and are having a great time in Mexico. Internet access is limited so it has been tough to post anything. I have some great pictures that I will get on the site as soon as I can.
I am on a public computer and there are people waiting to use this one. I gotta go. Thanks for praying for us.
Tiffany and I are still trying to get to our vacation spot. An UNBELIEVABLE day on planes and in airports. We had to stay in Dallas (where we are now) because of a late arriving flight, mechanical issues, and a host of other things.
Our luggage are also in Airline Limbo. We hope to meet up with Mr. and Mrs. Suitcase soon.
If not, I am going to be forced to rock these shorts and a t shirt for a whole week. Or Tiffany might make me buy some new stuff.
I have a lot that I would like to blog about concerning the details along with some of the crazy people that I had the priviledge to meet that are mascarading as airport and airline employees (for the sake of balance, there were a couple of nice folks!).
It was so bad in certain instances I thought I was in a Ben Stiller Movie (click here) or getting ‘Punk’d’. I just knew I had to be on reality TV.
It was amazing.
It is a good thing that we love Jesus. We have been prayerful, have served others, keeping our cool and doing our best to act like Jesus followers. I must admit though (to be totally transparent) there were moments where I felt like Michael Douglas in ‘Falling Down’ (above picture). I just wanted to start screaming and set it off.
Literally.
I know you have never felt that way…
Oh well, we will see what today’s adventure holds for the anniversary couple (actually today!).
Question: If you knew you were going to die tomorrow, how would you live today?
Who would you call?
Who would you write?
Who would you forgive?
Who would you ask to forgive you?
Who would embrace?
Who would you kiss?
Where would go?
What would you do?
What would you give?
What would you want your last memory and moments to be like?
How would you want to be remembered?
Question: If you knew you were going to die tomorrow, how would you live today?
In high-school there was a popular song entitled, ‘How Deep is Your Love?’ by Keith Sweat (I know, great name huh?). A real classic. To put the concept of the depth of love in a more mature context, last night I spent some time visiting one of my cousins that I had grown up with at the hospital. He was the victim of a hit-and-run accident (literally hit by a car as a pedestrian) and has had to deal with a host of significant challenges over the past seven weeks. Coma, spinal fusion, non functioning lungs, unresponsive brain, and a series of close calls.
What struck me yesterday evening (and he is doing MUCH better by the way!) in addition to how far my cousin Joseph ahd come in a short time, is the behavior of his mother.
Last night as Joseph lay in the bed doing his best to communicate to us with his eyes, she gently worked the muscles in his legs and feet. She sweetly wiped his mouth when it was necessary, divining his needs with unbelievable accuracy. She did all of this with a small, sometimes slighly bigger smile on her face.
I compared her smiling face with the other faces I had seen my aunt wear these past seven weeks. Faces of concern, pain, worry, fatigue, prayer, hope, sadness, weakness, inquisition, faith, among others. She wore many faces.
But one face I never saw her wear was defeat.
She never gave up.
We all love Joseph. His dad, his sister, his uncles, his aunts, all of us. We love him. But there is no love like a mother’s love. Mothers love children long before they are seen by any other eyes. Mothers hold children inside them before they are embraced by any other arms. A mother’s love is a unique thing, and communicates a strength of devotion that is very, very deep.
How deep?
It is in the love of the mother that we see aspects of God’s love for people. His love is deep. Deep enough that He gave of Himself and gave everything to save us.
So with that said, the question must be asked:
How deep is your love (and mine) toward Him?
How deep is your (my) love?
The depth of our love of God will determine in large part how far He can take us and how high we can go.
As leaders, communicators, and world changers it is easy to get predictable as we face resistance and the realities of the mundane. But the gifts of creativity, innovation, and surprise challenge the status quo and can snatch those that we lead from the Planet of Lethargy and Indifference.
Great clip that illustrates this concept from Britain’s Got Talent (click here). It doesn’t end the way that you think that it would or that it should. It surprises.
To utilize the power of surprise it is necessary to think both outside and inside the ‘box’. Because if we don’t know what is inside the ‘box’, we can never break out of it.
If things are a little stale in your environment, then perhaps it is time to use ’surprise’ to shake things up.

A reality that we should all remember.

We love quick. Fast. Instant. High speed. Rapid. Real time. Accelerated.
These are words that dominate our cultural landscape.
Maximized speed and minimized delay have become our way of life.
We have too much to do, too much to know, and not enough time to do it or know it.
So we take short cuts and skip steps, looking to round all the bases with just one swing of the bat.
But home runs are rare.
More wins come from good defense, good strategy, and an occasional base hit.
These things take time.
They are not fast, especially quick, or instantaneous.
Wins are the result of regular, faithful investments over time.
Be a winner.
Even if it takes a little while.
