For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man’s work.
- 1 Cor. 3:11-13
Last week while jogging, I ran by this little wooden square. For some reason it struck me as odd, so I doubled back and picked it up. What surprised me when I did, was that it wasn’t wood at all.
It was a cube sized piece of foam. It just looked like wood.
It made me think of all the times I have pursued something thinking it was one thing, and it turned out to be something else.
The Bible describes a future time for followers of Jesus where the very substance of our life will be tested. This Test will be evaulate the quality of our life, not just the appearance of it.
Only what is founded upon Jesus will endure the test of eternity.
Everything else will be exposed for what it truly is:
Nothing.
Let’s make sure the substance of our life is truly something of substance.
