“And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith.”
-Luke 17:5
pla·teau [pla-toh or, especially Brit., plat-oh]: a period of little or no apparent progress in an individual’s learning, marked by an inability to increase speed, reduce number of errors, etc., and indicated by a horizontal stretch in a learning curve or graph.
Too many of us are “People of the Plateau”.
No longer progressing, no longer growing, no longer moving.
Satisfied with where we are at, confident with where we have been, okay with the status quo. We don’t ask questions. We aren’t looking to learn anything new. We won’t try anything different.
But our problem is a sneaky one. Because it isn’t found in our inability to move, the problem lies in our desire to move.
The reason that the followers of Jesus in the above passage asked Jesus for more faith, was because Jesus was leading them to a place that they had never been. And to keep pace with Jesus, they couldn’t be content with where they were.
The question is, are we content with the plateau or will we follow Jesus?
Because Jesus is on the move.
